Lorenzo Giovanetti

Figure skating
Lorenzo was born in Bologna, Italy, in 1998. He started skating in 2010.
During the season 2013-2014, he debuted with his first competitions in the Junior Free category, where he won both the title of Regional Champion and Italian Champion (Finale Coppa Aosta 2014). At the same time, he obtained the technical requirements to compete in the category « Junior Elite ».

In the season 2014-2015, he took part in the Italian Junior National Championships and represented Italy at his first international competitions, scoring a 2nd place at the Miskolc Cup in Hungary. In the following season, he continued competing in the national and international circuit, ending up in 3rd place at the same competition in Hungary.

In 2016-2017, he attained the 2nd place at the National Level Test competition in Rome, won the Coup de l 'OMS in Paris and scored 2nd at the Open Cup in Bolzano with a new personal best.

Professional experiences
Since 2016, he has assisted his coach Elvira Bottoni (awarded a 4th-level teaching degree by the Italian Federation of Winter Sports) in the technical preparation of athletes on- and off-ice. 

At the same time, he has also assisted the choreographer Barbara Melica (choreographer of national athletes like Nicole della Monica, Matteo Guarise and Roberta Rodeghiero) in the creation of her choreographies for competition programmes and in her dance classes. In 2023, he started creating his own
choreographies
on ice, as well as teaching dance classes to figure skaters.

In Italy, he has been part of the teaching staff in workshops with coaches like Nicole della Monica and Roberta Rodeghiero. He also participated as a dance teacher and choreographer in several workshops organised by different skating clubs around Europe, notably in France, Sweden and Germany.

Dance studies
In the last years of his skating career, his passion for choreography and movement led him to integrate his figure skating training with the study of contemporary dance. 

From 2018 to 2021, he attended the professional training programme APAD in Modena, Italy. He subsequently moved to Salzburg, Austria, to further pursue his studies at the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance, one of the most prestigious institutions for contemporary dance in Europe, where he graduated with a diploma in «Dance Performance».

His education includes the study of a variety of different techniques like partnering, improvisation, contact improvisation, floorwork, flying low, Gaga, release and different choreographic repertories. He has a solid  nowledge of ballet and also studied theatre and somatic practices such as yoga, pilates and Feldenkrais. Throughout his training, he had the opportunity to take part in classes and workshops led by internationally renowned teachers and choreographers such as: Akram Khan, Wim Vandekeybus, Guy Shomroni, Fighting Monkey, Sadé & Kristina Alleyne, Paul Blackman & Christine Gouzelis, Edivaldo Ernesto, Tom Weskler, Maria Kolegova and many others.

Dance career, performances and productions
2024 – 2025
• Working in three different productions with the dance company Burkicom in Prague. With the piece "The Island" he goes on tour to South Korea, Hong Kong and Croatia, where the show is awarded the critique prize for the best comprehensive stage conception.
• Working with the company Holstebro Dance in Denmark for the creation of the piece "Shamat", in co-production with the Copenaghen-based company Uppercut Dance Theatre.

2022 – 2024
• Employed for two seasons at the Landesbühnen Sachsen in Dresden, the second biggest Landestheater in Germany, under the artistic direction of Natalie Wagner.
• In June 2023, he is selected as a finalist at the "Copenaghen International Choreographic Competition" with the piece "Der Moment Dazwischen" (choreography by Luana Rossetti).

2022
• He joins the Prague-based company Burkicom, under the direction of the Czech choreographer Jana Burkiewiczova, nominated at the Thalia Awards as choreographer of one of the five best theatre/dance productions in Czech Republic.
• He completes his internship with Akram Khan Company in London learning extracts of the piece "Kaash".
• He is selected to participate in the Ultima Vez – Wim Vandekeybus audition-workshop in Brussels.

2018 – 2021
In 2018 he joins Atzewi Dance Company, under the artistic direction of the Italian choreographer Alex Atzewi. He tours with the company in Italy and abroad, perfroming at festivals such as «Lunaria Festival» in Genoa, «Festival les Arènes de la Danse et du Cirque» in Paris and many others. He shares the stage with renowned guest dancers such as Petra Conti, Marco d'Agostino, Beatrice Carbone and Amilcar Moret Gonzales.

Further interests and competences
He has always been keen on visual arts, music and communication.

He holds a bachelor in European Languages and Cultures at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.

Beside Italian, he can fluently speak English and French; German at a basic level
